Unsure what this is??

Not sure what this flower is . . .

Not sure what this flower is . . .

This pretty little bush popped up among my irises.  I’m not entirely sure what it is.  I may have planted it here at some point but, if so, I dont remember it.  The flowers are a vibrant color, though, so it’s lovely to see.

Charming Chimnea

I believe this is a terra cotta chimnea (It's some kind of pottery)

I believe this is a terra cotta chimnea (It's some kind of pottery)

I was walking my dogs and we decided to go down a new street.  I thought I saw a large piece of broken pottery under a pile of rubbish discarded for trash pickup at the curb.  I went to investigate and look what I found!  A perfectly good chimnea!

It will be awhile before I will need a fire in the hot heart of Texas, which gives me a lot of time to decide exactly where I want to place it.   Also, I have time to learn to set it up and use it properly.  I found a great article on the care and use of chimneas that was very informative.  Thanks to John Ansart of  Chimneas, Inc. for the extensive information on use, safety, woods to use/not use, and care that increases the longevity of a chimnea.

. . . that’s one more garden feature SAVED from the landfill!

Vivacious Violets

Violets still going strong as summer heats up.

Violets still going strong as summer heats up.

I said earlier that pansies were the closest I had to a year-round flower.  I forgot about the violets!  It has gotten very hot here.  But these winter violets are still bright and cheerful.

My Caladiums are Out!

Beautiful green caladiums.

Beautiful green caladiums.

I think Caladiums are so pretty.  I used to grow them just outside the Labyrinth Garden, but as my oak tree grew, they no longer had enough sun.  So this fall, I planted these new caladiums near the center of the garden.  They are doing well.

The Promise of Tomatoes

Green tomatoes in the Labyrinth Garden

Green tomatoes in the Labyrinth Garden

My tomato plant took its time in creating little tomatoes.  But I finally have a few green ones starting to grow.  Hopefully I will get to eat them before the rabbits do!
