Warm Days Cause Bulbs to Bloom

February 12, 2017

img_2067img_2068We’ve had a few warm days, although the cold weather won’t stay away for long.  All of a sudden, I have daffodils and lily-of-the-valley blooming.  I’ll get these marked on my new layout plan.

In addition, leaves are coming out on the roses and the leaves of the iris are looking perky.

Previews of spring!

Daffodils Starting to Bloom

Yellow daffodil in the sunshine

The daffodils are blooming.  They are arriving here and there all over the garden.

It’s Spring. It’s Spring. It’s Spring.

Blooming daffodils in the Labyrinth Garden

I managed to take one photo today that wasn’t blurry, and this is it.  I don’t know what I’ve done to the settings on my camera.  The garden’s blooming in daffodils, blue and maroon and red anemones (sylphide , mr. fokker, and a red one), pansies, and a white flower whose name I have totally forgotten.  And there are more blooms about to open.  I love this time of year!

Soggy Hole in the Ground

Hole in the ground

Hole in the ground, ready for bulbs

I had this hole dug one foot deep for bulbs.  I covered it, but there was so much wind the covers blew off.  We have had so much rain and snow that it filled with water which I bailed out this morning — right before it rained again.   Next week is supposed to be sunny so hopefully it will soon be dry enough to plant bulbs.

My Caladiums are Out!

Beautiful green caladiums.

Beautiful green caladiums.

I think Caladiums are so pretty.  I used to grow them just outside the Labyrinth Garden, but as my oak tree grew, they no longer had enough sun.  So this fall, I planted these new caladiums near the center of the garden.  They are doing well.
