January 31, 2017

This is my largest oak tree.  I planted it as a sapling when I moved in.  It is now 40 feet tall.

Closest I’ve got to a year-round flower

Pansies are still bright after having been here since Fall.

Pansies are still bright after having been here since Fall.

I love pansies!  They are so brightly colored, and are one of the few flowers that will bloom through winter here.  During the winter months, we get freezing temperatures alternating with really warm weather.  Pansies may wilt a little if it drops 30 degrees in one afternoon, or after a hailstorm, but they bounce back.  Unfortunately, the heat gets to be a bit much for them around June.  So I’ll be enjoying these for another month before I have to say good-bye!
