Climbing Clematis

Clematis in Bloom

This clematis is planted in one of the small square beds I have at either end of a line of tall wickets where there was not enough room to make a bed to separate the paths of the labyrinth.  I’ve never gotten more than one bloom at a time that I can remember, so this is pretty exciting.

Passion Vine Invading Oak

December 27, 2009

Passion flower vine in oak

I realized some vines had spread up from their arbor into the oak tree, but I didn’t realize the extent to which they had grown until the oak had shed all its leaves.  All greenery in this photo is passion vine.  Temps in the 20s are expected in the coming weeks.  If the vine isn’t killed by the freeze, I will have to pull it down so it doesn’t threaten the oak.

Bright Purple Glories

This morning glory self-seeds all over the garden every year.  I love the color, but don’t always love where it sprouts.  This one is amongst the cosmos.  I like the color combinations that are created as it winds its way through the other flowers.

My New Balls of String

This clematis generates little balls of string that are supposed to turn into flowers.

This clematis generates little balls of string that are supposed to turn into flowers.

This clematis looked so fascinating, I had to bring it home.  It didn’t have a tag in it, so I don’t know its exact name, but aren’t these balls of string  interesting?

I’m currently experimenting as to where to put it.  The instructions said it needs to be in a sunny spot, but the roots need to be cool.  The sunny spots in Texas aren’t cool, so I’m trying to figure out how to pull that off.  Will come back and update you if I succeed.
