Butterflies Do Lunch at the Labyrinth Garden

This butterfly let me get closer than any so far this year.  We have had a large herd (?) of butterflies residing here through the spring and summer.  I love butterflies.  I accidentally dusted one with sand as I was spreading it around the garden.  The beautiful creature  forgave me and fluttered nearby as I continued gardening . . . .  still friends.

Butterfly Friends

A beautiful visitor to the Labyrinth Garden.

A beautiful visitor to the Labyrinth Garden.

Butterflies, hummingbirds, bees, cardinals, blujays, and sparrows frequently visit the Labyrinth Garden.  I love it when they come and stay for awhile.  A pair of predominantly orange butterflies have been visiting for about a week now.  I hadn’t been able to catch them on camera, so I finally just took the camera outside, turned it on, and said “Would you please come over here and be still so I can take your picture?”  One of them did.

Pincushion Scabiosa

I call these Pincushion flowers, but I think they are named Scabiosa.

I love these pincushion flowers, called scabiosa.  I have several of them.  They attract butterflies and are beautiful.  I haven’t quite figured out how to care for them yet.  They don’t die on me, but they stop flowering as well if I give them too much or too little water.  If you’ve found the watering trick, let me know.
