Wild Chrysanthemums

Wild chrysanthemums grown from seed.

I vaguely remember throwing a packet of wildflower seeds in this bed that included wild chrysanthemums.  I didn’t know exactly what they were, but was told they would bloom in Autumn.  These wild chrysanthemums have just bloomed.  They are beautiful and look a lot like pincushion flowers.

“Wildflower” is a fancy term for  flowering weeds.  Most are self-seeding, very easy to grow, and native species can tolerate drought.  Some people will recognize them as weeds, but don’t let that bother you.   Assure them that — somewhere in the world —  they are considered “exotic”.
